Community service activities are a form of university contribution to the community. These activities can be in the form of mentoring, training, or counseling.

“In 2021, the Family Welfare Education Study Program collaborates with SMPN 259 Jakarta to carry out counseling activities for learning independence for students. Junior high school students are now entering the stage of adolescence where they have learned a lot about life and character development. Independent learning is not an attitude that can come suddenly. These characters need to be formed from an early age and become the responsibility of parents, schools, and the community,” Uswatun continued.

This counseling aims to raise awareness in students about the importance of having an independent learning attitude. In participating in distance learning, students cannot only rely on the subject matter provided by the teacher. Students need to carry out active learning activities that are driven by motivation to master the competencies that have been set.

Lecturer of the Family Welfare Education Study Program, Maya Oktaviani conveyed the importance of independent learning for students. “Regarding the skills that must be possessed by students in participating in 21st century learning consisting of Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Communication, and Creativity, students must be able to solve problems, collaborate with peers, be responsible, have initiative and creativity, as well as be able to stand up. without depending on others,” he said.

On the same occasion, Elmanora, Coordinator of the Family Welfare Education Study Program conveyed the importance of the role of the school environment in shaping children’s character. “Teachers need to use the right strategy in fostering an attitude of independence in students,” he explained.

On this occasion, the lecturer of the Family Welfare Education Study Program distributed a pocket book for independent learning for free for the students of SMPN 259 Jakarta. Deputy Principal for Curriculum, Muhammad Basir expressed his appreciation for the lecturers of the Family Welfare Education Study Program for holding this activity. “Hopefully this partnership will not stop here.
