In order to improve the quality of institutional governance of the D3 Vocational Study Program at Jakarta State University and the transition to D4, as well as preparation for the establishment of a Vocational School, Universitas Negeri Jakarta held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) activity on Friday (26/11). This activity was carried out offline at GOR UNJ and online via Zoom Cloud Meeting. In this activity, the Universitas Negeri Jakarta invited Mr. Wikan Sakarinto, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D as the Director General of Vocational Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture. The activity was preceded by playing tennis together.

In the speech given by the Chancellor of UNJ, Prof. Dr. Komarudin, M.Si conveyed about upgrading activities as an effort to achieve UNJ’s vision and is part of the change from PTN BLU to PTN BH.

“One part of PTN BH is the creation of vocational schools. There are already several universities that are upgrading such as the Universitas Negeri Surabaya. UNJ will follow these campuses. Please learn from parties who have experience regarding curriculum and others.” he added.

This presentation session was moderated by Mr. Usep Suhud, M.Sc., Ph.D. In the presentation delivered by the resource person, he conveyed the need to remain guided by the link and match 8+i in making this vocational school.

“So that there are no difficulties in fulfilling the requirements for upgrading the D4 study program, we collaborate with BAN-PT in formulating this policy. There are several things that universities must pay attention to when doing this: (1) curriculum development must actively involve industry, (2) learning using Project-based Learning that pays attention to sustainability, the products produced by students must be marketable and appraised by the community, (3) the proposed study program must be futuristic, adapted to the needs of today’s society, and follow the development of science.” continued Mr. Wikan.

Currently, for the requirements for upgrading D3 to D4, study programs do not need to have patents and foreign students. However, when universities are planning this upgrading, it is better if the study programs are collected in one school or faculty. In addition to preparing students, universities must also prepare human resources (lecturers and education staff) who are ready to be placed in the vocational school/faculty.
